Getting Ready

So here I am, at the end of my third semester at UNCW. I just returned from my Introduction to Information Systems and Technology final (which I'm pretty sure I aced, by the way), and walking back in the crisp, 29 degree weather, I couldn't help but think of the current sunny, 62 degree conditions in Santander. If you're wondering how I know what the weather is like in Spain, it's because I've added Santander to my weather update on my iGoogle homepage. Even though I'm not leaving for another 2 months, I've already done a lot of things to begin preparing myself. All of which I will gladly list for you now:

  1. Adding Santander weather updates to my iGoogle hompage.
  2. Preparing a mental list of what to pack.
  3. Downloading a LOT of Spanish/Latin American music.
  4. Changing any websites of which I'm a member, such as Facebook, Blogger, Twitter, and email, to Spanish. (I know it's stupid, but believe it or not, I've learned quite a bit of vocab from Spanish Facebook...)
  5. Watching familiar movies in Spanish. (Like Harry Potter...I could quote that movie from beginning to end, so it's really easy to understand it in Spanish. Also I'm thinking about reading it in Spanish too. That'd be cool.)
  6. Signing up for classes, which are as follows:

    1. Advanced Spanish Lanuage
    2. Advanced Grammar and Composition
    3. Spanish History
    4. Introduction to Spanish Literature
    5. Spanish Art and Geography

  7. And lastly, writing this little blog.

Hey, how's that for fancy html?? My MIS 213 professor would be proud. Who knew you can use things you learned in school in the real world??? anyway....

So don't worry, if I realize I've forgotten anything, I'll be sure to add it in here. Anyway, I'm going to go study for my Spanish final tomorrow. But before I go-if you feel so inclined to click on my ads, I'd be okay with that, as I'm earning revenue for them on a per-click basis. Earn me some spending money while I'm abroad!!

PS-That's going to be my new parting quote. Thanks to Tori Carle :)

Before I Forget...

Gotta have one of these:

The Title means "I'm going to go to Spain."

Buenos días, mis amigos y familia.
First I'll explain to you what this blog will be about. (And allow me to make it clear that I hesitate to use the word "blog" because of its nerdy connotations. This is by no means a nerd blog. This is the coolest blog you will ever read.) I feel this is necessary because, as much as I love each and every one of you, I really don't want to spend several hours each week writing personal emails. Please forgive me, but I would much rather spend my 3 short months experiencing Europe. Which is why I've chosen not to bring my laptop. Facebook has become enough of a distraction to me here in the States, where I'm mere minutes from (and in some cases, in the same room as) the people I'm facebooking. Imagine what the distance will do to me. I don't want to waste this time in front of my computer, facebooking or emailing. Anyway, writing a blog will make it easy for people who want to hear what I have to say to hear it, and also for people who want to respond, to respond. If you want a personal response or simply have something to say, please feel free to comment. It'll be much easier for me to respond in a comment or even in the following entry than to write emails back and forth.

Okay, through all that rambling, the basic message to take away: While I'm halfway across the world-  blogs=good; facebook and email=bad. So don't expect much from me on those websites.

Also! Another way to hear from me will be twitter. I'm not a big "tweeter," as the kids are calling them these days, but I'll try to update at least once daily overseas. (Hehe-that sounds so cool and grown-up to describe myself as "overseas.") If I've done it correctly, I've linked my twitter account to this page, so my updates will show up here as well.

Hmm, what else? I think that's about it. I'll respond to comments made on here. I'll try my very hardest, but will, in all likelihood, fail, to respond to retweets (or whatever they're called...). My twitter account name is SpaniSherri. (Haha, get it? Spanish Sherri? Because...My name is Sherri and I'm going to Spain...? How do I come up with this stuff?!??) I won't respond to emails (unless you comment on my blog and ask me very nicely to check my email. AND I like you.). I'm sure this is obvious, but I won't be available by phone/text. I mean, I suppose I could be, but it would cost me more money than I'm willing to part with. ANYWAY, this is probably a longer entry than you all want to read, so I'll sign off for now. I just wanted to explain my motivation in creating a blog. I hope you all enjoy reading about my amazing trip to Spain, because I sure am going to enjoy writing about it.

(I need to think of a really good parting line that I can say at the end of every blog. Any ideas?)
